literally brought them up in a conversation w my friend today they’re still so good. they’re such a perfect depiction of rivals to lovers. they had so much potential!! the idea of being on a team with a guy that completely infuriates you bc you’re so competitive you simply HAVE to prove you’re better than him and then you inadvertently end up becoming way stronger in your effort to show him up and then realizing you actually work really well together despite it all and being straight up angry about it at first until you slowly start being vulnerable with each other and your unfriendly rivalry turns to friendly rivalry with thinly veiled admiration that you’re still too stubborn to outright show because you have a reputation to uphold until it reaches a point where admiration turns to attraction and you have an internal freakout because he’s supposed to be your rival and definitely doesn’t see you that way bc you’re big enough to admit at this point that you definitely instigated almost all of your arguments and surely made it impossible for him to ever see you in a romantic light so you just keep quiet and pine while continuing to watch his back in battle and making your top priority to keep him safe….the IDEA of being on a team with a guy who’s decided you’re rivals out of nowhere and you’re so easy to rile up that you constantly rise to the bait and end up engaging and he ends up pushing you to be stronger because at this point it’s a game and you don’t even know how this started but you realize how in awe you are at how dedicated he is not only to his role as a protector but to his loved ones and keeping them safe and you can’t help but slowly start to fall in love but you can’t EVER tell him because he barely sees you as a friend let along romantic partner so you just pine silently and tell yourself it’s enough that your unfriendly competitions have turned into healthy ones because you’re actually friends now who definitely admire each other despite your rocky beginning and you try your best to tamp down your feelings and make sure he makes it back alive to the family you know he still silently cries about because even if he doesn’t love you back all you want to do is see him happy…..GOD
